D.I.Y. Wood Redo #1

Wood Redo #1

I saw this idea on Pinterest and yes, I actually did it :)

Its pretty easy if you have some scrap wood, a printer, and some paint!

Materials:
Scrap wood
Paint
Pen
Printer

Start by picking a word, phrase or saying that you want to paint. (I have seen this being used to paint monograms or personalize things with names) I chose the simple word, love, and printed it out on normal printer paper.

Fit the paper to the piece of wood to make sure you have enough room to paint the whole word.

Cut the word into pieces with 1 letter on each piece. Tape the pieces onto the wood so that they do not move around during the next step.

Trace over the edges of your font with a ball-point pen. If you apply enough pressure, it will create a divot in the wood. After tracing the letter, you should be able to see the outline on the wood.

Using a small paint brush, apply the paint to the wood where the letter is outlined. The divot you created with the pen will act as a guide and will stop the paint from seeping outside of the intended letter shape.

Continue the process for all of the letters: tape, trace, paint, repeat :)

In the end you will have transferred your font onto the wood! Practicing this technique will really help it look like it was done by a professional :)

Here is are a couple examples of how I used this technique!

This was a birthday present for Jordan's sister, McKenzie. Happy Birthday Kenzie!

This font is more of a cursive and was an engagement/wedding present for some
friends from Grove City :)
